Christmas books are a huge part of the holiday season for me. As a child my mom used to read Christmas books to me every night leading up to the big day. There are so many great ones out there! As I got a bit older I continued to discover great holiday books for the older age groups as well. Here are a few of my absolute favourites that I MUST read every Christmas.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
This is one of the first books I remember me and my Mom reading religiously every year. It is funny and heartwarming. I loved it as a child and reading it now as an adult I think I can appreciate it even more. This is a must read!
Let It Snow
This is a book of three interconnected short stories (one actually written by John Green, pre Fault in our Stars and Paper Towns) which take place in a small town at Christmas, during an insane snow storm. There’s romance, snow, and Christmas cheer. What more could you want?
A Christmas Carol
A true classic for sure. I must admit, I watch the Mickey Mouse version of this every year (and am still slightly terrified of it). However, the book is so worthwhile. Some find it difficult to read (Charles Dickens can be VERY wordy), but the book is short. Everyone must read it at least once.
The Night Before Christmas
This is the epitome of a Christmas book. I would be surprised to meet someone who has never read it. As cliche as it may be to add this to a list of top Christmas books, how could you leave it out? It just isn’t Christmas without it.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Another somewhat cliche Christmas book, but it’s also so worth adding to the list. I love Dr. Seuss books, and this book has such a lovely message. “ What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”
What are your favourite books to read during the holiday season? Let me know in the comments, I’m always looking for new ones to throw in the mix!
