Every year I get one particularly awful cold. Fever, chills, sore throat, completely congested, the works basically. So of course, this past weekend it hit. It took me many years to realize that popping a bunch of pills and pretending you’re fine will NOT make you magically better. Usually it just makes the unpleasant symptoms linger for even longer. So now, I take extra good care of myself when I’m sick. Aside from the basics, like rest and fluids, I also think it’s important to show yourself so much self love when you’re feeling crummy. Here are a few tips I have to cheer myself up when I’m sick.
Looking gross and disheveled makes me feel even worse. It’s easy to lie around in the same old sweats for days when you aren’t leaving the house. However, I find I feel so much better if I brush my hair and teeth, wash my face, and put on my cutest pair of comfy pyjamas. Instant mood booster.
Especially when you’re congested, a nice hot bath can do wonders. I love to add a little eucalyptus and epsom salts. Even if it’s only temporary, it clears my cough and sinuses right up.
My favourite is Tazo Passion Tea. A nice cup of herbal tea with honey makes it feel a little less like I’m swallowing a million little razor blades.
A Fun TV Show
Preferably something lighthearted! Trust me, if you start watching Breaking Bad while you have a fever, horrible things could happen. I just started watching Jane the Virgin and I’m loving it. It makes being bed ridden totally bearable!
A Furry Friend
Seriously, when your cat or dog lies at the end of your bed the entire time you’re sick. So heartwarming.
