During savasana at my yoga class, the instructor always finishes off with a thought provoking reading. Last week, on the first day of spring, she read from Melody Beattie’s ” Journey to the Heart”. The quote was…
“There is a purpose and value in each day of your life, in each season of your life.
Nurture your times of action, of creating, of doing, and value your quieter times of going within.
The more you study nature, the more you will learn about yourself.
Nurture and trust the seasons of you soul.”
This quote really caught my attention, and I pondered it for the rest of the night. During the winter, I essentially hibernate. I rarely leave the house, I spend all my time making things warm and cozy, preparing delicious food, and indulging in little comforts. I don’t push myself out of my comfort zone, or set lofty goals. Comfort and contentedness are my main focuses.
Things change in the spring. All of a sudden I have energy. My exercise and eating habits change. And I want to create, set goals, push myself, and accomplish things. My values and priorities pivot drastically.
Issues arise when we don’t respect these changes from season to season. If we try to create and accomplish when our body is craving quiet and reflection, it’s impossible to feel peace. So trust your body, adjust your life as the seasons change, don’t force things when the timing isn’t right.
Do you feel differently depending on the season? How does your life change during the spring?
