I feel like a million book lovers just felt a disturbance in the force.
Okay, I’ll rephrase this. I think this list is more so “Movies that Didn’t Make me Want to Hurl the Book at the TV”. But really, there are movies out there where I love the book and the movie equally. Hogwash, you may say. I swear it’s true! Just hear me out… Here are five movies that didn’t completely let the book down.
Loved the book. Loved the movie. There was a lot of stuff left out of the movie, but it still worked! Both were funny and suspenseful. I laughed and cried during both. And both of them just made made me so happy.
Me Before You
This book broke my heart and had me curled up in a ball sobbing uncontrollably. So obviously I needed to feel all these feels again, but this time in two hours. I thought they summed up the book so well, and Emilia Clark is adorable. She is also amazing actress, by the way. Who can play both the quirky awkward Louisa as well as the powerful Daenerys Targaryen #GirlCrush.
The Hunger Games
I’m only going to comment on the first two movies/books in this series. I haven’t actually seen the last two movies because I just didn’t love the third book. However, the first two movies were perfect. They followed the story so well and the acting was amazing. Also who doesn’t love Jennifer Lawrence.
Bridget Jones Diary
NONE OF YOU CAN DENY ME THIS. Admit it, we all love Bridget. We all have a little bit of Bridget in us. Her book is basically a bible to young women, slogging through one bad relationship after another. Drinking too much. Eating too much cheese. And generally not having our shit together. I just don’t have time to read the book everytime I have a bad day!! So thank God they made it into a movie, thank God the movie was good, and thank God Hugh Grant and Colin Firth are hot.
Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone
I take Harry Potter very seriously. So including this movie on this list is a huge deal. Everyone always argues, “of course the first one was good, they could actually fit the entire thing into the movie.” IT’S NOT ABOUT THAT. It’s the essence. And the Harry Potter essence is in this movie.
